Midget Girls & Juvenile Girls are crowned Outdoor Soccer Champions. Midget Boys runner-ups.
The Midget Girls outdoor soccer team won the division 1 GMAA Outdoor soccer championship Saturday October 31st at Ed. Meagher field in NDG. Their performance proved to be too much for the opposition in this rain-soaked day of competition. Coaching soccer for the last 20 years Mr. Cavallaro stated “this is the best soccer team I have ever coached”. The team was clearly dominate on the field and allowed the opposition only 5 shots on goal, while launching 18 shots on net resulting in 4 successful goals. With another year remaining for these girls at VMC the future is bright
Meanwhile, the Juvenile Girls Outdoor soccer team Defeated Jean-Vainney College in the ARSEM Championship match-up. Here too, the game was battered by wind and rain. With the first half remaining scoreless, the girls poured in a strong performance in the second half to out-class their stacked opposition 4-0. The VMC juvenile girls team championship is hopefully a strong indicator of their ability for the upcoming indoor soccer season.
The Midget Boys outdoor soccer team battled the same elements as the girls’ teams, only to be beaten by a highly motivated Lasalle team 3-0. The VMC team was riddled with injuries and had a minimal bench for support. Even with the strong effort in the second half, bombarding the opposition’s goal proved fruitless in the dying seconds of the game. The season ended with a silver medal and hopes of gold next year with a healthy team.
